Your growth plan

For employees

Your growth plan is where your development goals live. It is co-edited by you, your line manager, and your HR administrator. The platform's job is to keep the editing co-ordinated, log every change, and make the plan an alive document rather than a forgotten one.

Where to find it

/{slug}/me/plan. Available from the navigation tabs.

What is in your plan

Four parts:

  • Your target role — the role you are working toward. Optional. Drives gap analysis on your competencies page and the relevance of learning recommendations.
  • Milestones — discrete development goals, each with a title, description, optional due date, linked competencies, and a status (not started, in progress, done, cancelled).
  • Linked learning items — courses or programmes that have been added to your plan from the recommendations surface.
  • Activity log — a chronological list of every edit, with who and when.

Who edits it

Three people:

  • You — full editing access on your own plan.
  • Your line manager — full editing access.
  • HR administrators — full editing access.

There is no approval workflow. Anyone authorised can change anything at any time. The activity log captures every change.

This is intentional. A development plan that requires sign-off becomes a document people stop touching. A plan that is alive — edited frequently as conditions change — is more useful.

How to add a milestone

From the plan page, click + Add milestone. A small form opens:

  • Title — what you are setting out to achieve.
  • Description — what good looks like, in 1–3 sentences. Lead one production migration end-to-end, including writing the rollout plan and managing the cutover.
  • Linked competencies — the competencies this milestone develops, picked from the taxonomy.
  • Due date — optional; if set, you receive a reminder two weeks before.

Save. The milestone is immediately visible to your line manager and HR; a PLAN_EDITED notification fires to them.

How to update a milestone

Click an existing milestone to expand it. Every field is editable; status is changeable from a small selector on the right of the milestone row. Done marks it complete and adds it to your accomplishments record. Cancelled archives it without celebration; useful for milestones that no longer apply.

How to set a target role

From the plan header, click the target-role pill. A picker opens with every role in the workspace. The choice updates your match scores on the competencies page and refines your learning recommendations.

You can change the target as often as feels right. Many employees change theirs every 6–12 months as their thinking develops; some keep one for years. There is no penalty for changing.

When you change your own target role, a PLAN_EDITED notification fires to your line manager and the workspace's HR administrators — not to you (you took the action). A Pending HR review chip appears next to the role picker for 24 hours after the change, so the edit is visible to everyone with a stake in your plan. There is no approval workflow in v1.0; the chip is purely visual — you can keep working on your plan without waiting for a response. Full sign-off is on the v1.1 roadmap.

How to add a learning item

From /{slug}/me/learning, click Add to plan on any recommendation. The recommended item becomes a milestone on your plan with a learning tag. Status can be tracked the same way as any other milestone.

What you cannot do

  • Edit the activity log. It is read-only, even to you.
  • Edit your competency profile directly. The profile is built from measurements; it is not editable from the plan or from anywhere else.
  • Hide the plan from your manager or HR. The plan is co-edited by all three; visibility is mutual.

What if you disagree with a change

Most plans have light disagreement at some point — your manager adds a milestone you do not feel is urgent, or removes one you wanted. Three options:

  • Discuss it. A two-minute conversation usually resolves it.
  • Edit it back. The plan is co-edited; you can change what your manager wrote (the change is logged, so it is visible, not stealth).
  • Ask HR for a moderated conversation if the disagreement is persistent.

The platform does not arbitrate. The activity log gives both of you a shared record.
